Art Soup, a local nonprofit arts organization and Tidal Creek Cooperative present Rawl Color: a presentation of paintings, featuring local artist Emily Rawl.
On display from December 2011 – February 2012, this is part of a continual series of art exhibits from Art Soup and Tidal Creek, a local nonprofit arts organization and a local cooperative natural food market. An opening reception will be held Friday December 9th, 2011, 6pm
Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Emily Rawl is a self-taught artist with an inherit skill and an accomplished technique well beyond her age. Spending most of her youth in Arizona, Rawl was raised by a family of artists and continues to educate herself through incessant training and a continual push of the brush. With a focus on color and motion, Rawl’s work seems to dance across the canvas with delight. Her unconventional use of surrealism and form, capture a unique perspective that pushes the viewer into the work.
Also an accomplished saxophone player, Rawl’s talent is showcased throughout her work, both audibly and visually. This young artist is surely one to watch and a must see in this three month solo exhibition.
RawlColor is a series of recent work from Rawl that showcases conceptual imagery from a surrealist viewpoint. With flowing circles and chaotic forms, this collection of paintings includes an interpretation of the natural world as seen through the eyes and mind of the artist. From simple forest landscapes to octopus tentacles and caterpillar limbs, RawlColor is a stunning example of the power of paint and the artist’s ability to manipulate and perfect the tools of her trade.
Art Soup is an arts education and event organization whose mission is to provide, educate and promote the performance and appreciation of the arts in the Cape Fear region of North Carolina. Focusing on art in a variety of forms, Art Soup hosts live events, presentations, educational services, artist services/donations, arts advocacy and promotion, as well as the general appreciation and participation in the arts.
