“What’s Wrong with Different?” was developed as a hands-on approach to teach elementary school students to value, appreciate, and respect the differences between people, rather than to view a person who is different as inferior.
Volunteers are needed to facilitate the 45-minute presentation in New Hanover County Schools. The program provides a thought-provoking lesson plan which reviews definitions to words such as equator, ancestry and culture and leads to an exercise where students give fun, fictitious names to skin-toned paint.
Individuals who are interested in becoming a volunteer facilitator can rsvp to Katie Nelson at volunteers@ywca-lowercapefear.org or call 799-6820 ext 104.
