American Red Cross holds Video Contest to Promote Social Media Campaign

The American Red Cross – Cape Fear Chapter is the oldest Red Cross chapter in the State of North Carolina, but is always looking for new and creative ways to connect with the communities it serves. The Cape Fear Chapter realizes that social media is a great and growing means to broaden its reach. The chapter is currently embarking on a social media campaign, with partner and social media gurus Say It Social, and is preparing to launch a social media micro-site on November 11. The site will be a multi-faceted interface through which Red Cross volunteers, supporters, and the community at large can learn more about what the chapter is doing and connect with them through various multi-media tools and sites such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc. In celebration of this launch, the chapter is holding a video contest.

The contest began on October 16, 2009 at 9:00am EST and ends on October 30, 2009 at 5:00pm EST.

Participants may create a video that is 1 to 3 minutes in length focused on disaster volunteers and why they are so important to the Red Cross. You may submit multiple Entries, so long as each Entry meets all requirements. You can create an Entry in English or in Spanish (a prize will be given to winners in each category). Each Entry should be original, creative, and appeal to a worldwide audience. Be creative! To enter you will need to register with YouTube. YouTube registration is free. Once you have completed the registration process and have created your video, upload it to your YouTube account, marking it as PUBLIC. Only original submissions that are personally created will be eligible to win. Once loaded on YouTube, the Entry should be submitted to the Contest by emailing LoriLorusso@SayItSocial.com the url to your video and completed photo release forms from each participant in the video (you can scan and email the forms or fax to (910) 332-5949).

There are some rules and restrictions with regards to content, so be sure to visit http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=158156129325&ref=nf for full contest rules and details.

The public can judge entries on the chapter’s Facebook Fan Page from November 4 – 10 to help determine the winner. The Cape Fear Chapter’s Facebook Fan Page link is: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/pages/American-Red-Cross-Cape-Fe...

The winner will receive a Red Cross prize package and have their video featured on the chapter’s new social media micro-site.

Thanks for posting that, Autumn. Hope you get a lot of entries, and I can't wait to see the social networking micro-site you're developing.
An update: I just had a great interview with Autum (no N at theend of her name) and others involvied with creating this site. Look for my column Sunday, Nov. 1, about now nonprofits need to be getting on with their social networking plans.
