Giving back in Southeastern North Carolina
Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina to again sponsor
Summer Food Service Program;
Interest Meetings Set in Local Communities
WILMINGTON, NC - Summer will be here before you know it and it is never too early to think about how some children will access nutritious meals, particularly the 250,000 on the free and reduced meal programs in the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina 34-county service area. The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) makes sure children in low-income areas can continue to receive nutritious meals during long school vacations, when they do not have access to school lunch or breakfast. In an effort to make certain children continue to receive nutritious meals, the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina will again sponsor the SFSP throughout its 34 county service area. This will be the third year that the Food Bank has served as a SFSP sponsor. Interest meetings will be held throughout February at locations in Durham, New Bern, Greenville, Raleigh, Southern Pines and Wilmington.
For those interested in learning more about this program and how it can benefit children in your community, the Food Bank will be hosting Summer Food Service Program Interest Meetings at the following location for Brunswick, Columbus, New Hanover and Pender counties:
Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina at Wilmington
Conference Room, 1314 Marstellar St, Wilmington, NC 28402
February 18 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
RSVP to Theresa Swenson 910-251-1465 ext 2204

About the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina
The Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina is a nonprofit organization that has provided food for people at risk of hunger in 34 counties in central and eastern North Carolina for 30 years. The Food Bank serves a network of more than 800 partner agencies such as soup kitchens, food pantries, shelters, and programs for children and adults through warehouses in Durham, Greenville, New Bern, Raleigh, the Sandhills (Southern Pines) and Wilmington. In fiscal year 2009-2010, the Food Bank distributed more than 41.5 million pounds of food and non-food essentials through these agencies. Sadly, hunger remains a serious problem in central and eastern North Carolina. In these counties, more than 500,000 struggle each day to provide enough food for their families. www.foodbankcenc.org.
