Local agencies collecting for holidays

The holiday season is a time of giving. Here is a sampling of local agencies in need of donations and support.
The Community Boys and Girls Club will collect new toys Nov. 18-Dec. 16 and canned goods from Nov. 4 through Dec. 10. Drop-offs can be made at the main unit on Nixon street. All donations go directly into the community for local boys and girls. 762-1252
Reaching Hearts Women’s Outreach collects canned goods for women and their families during the holiday season as well as bar soap and lipstick to benefit its annual visit to the Fountain Correctional Center for Women in Rocky Mount. 792-0997
Carolina Beach Fire Department collects new, unwrapped toys for boys and girls. Toys can be dropped off at the fire department. 458-2985
The Burgaw Police Department collects toys and cash donations for its Cops for Kids Program. The donations will be divided up and given to children after Dec. 9. Donations can be dropped off at police department. 259-4924
The Food Bank of Central and Eastern N.C. collects canned goods and non-perishables. Food items can be dropped off at 1314 Marstellar St. 251-1465
Marshall Dental Excellence collects canned goods, toiletries, hygiene products, cleaning supplies and baby food. No glass please. Items can be dropped off until Dec. 30 at 7643 Market St. 686-9802
The Dreams Center for Arts Education collects new, canned goods and toys for students ages 8 through 18. Drops-offs can be made 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday by Dec. 9. 772-1501
The American Red Cross is hosting its Holiday Giving Campaign. Donate through Dec. 31 and two matching donors will triple your donation. 762-2683
UNCW’s Center for Leadership and Education Service collects food items for the Adopt a Family Program. Sign up at the CLES office and grocery shop for a Thanksgiving dinner spending approximately sixty dollars. Donations will go to benefit a local family. 962-3877
Lake Waccamaw Boys and Girls Home collects gifts for its Angel Tree program. Angel Trees are located in UNCW’s Fisher Student Center Hawks Nest, Warwick Center, Randall Library, Wagoner Hall and the Recreation Center. 962-3877
St. Mary’s Tileston Social Outreach, in conjunction with Phoenix Employment Ministry collects food, clothing and household items Monday through Thursday mornings. Drop-offs can be made at the corner of Fifth and Ann streets.762-5491
Miller-Motte College partnering with the Fayetteville-Cumberland County Chamber of Commerce’s Ambassadors collects non-perishable food donations and new toys for boys and girls to support the Women’s Shelter of Fayetteville. 794-8344
Marine Toys for Tots collects new, unwrapped toys for distribution in the local community. For donation drop-off sites contact 274-5430.
The Domestic Violence Shelter & Services collects nonperishable food items that can be used in a traditional Thanksgiving meal for its Thanksgiving Basket drive. Donations will be accepted until Nov. 16 and will be distributed to the women and children that the shelter serves. 343-0703
Sharing Our Bounty accepts monetary donations to sponsor individuals and families for Christmas. Donation amounts are $25 for an individual and $100 for a family of four. 612-0390
Cape Fear Volunteer Center assists by matching families and donors. Currently have families on the waiting list. Call the volunteer center if you can help 392-8180. Also working on distributing dinners on Christmas Eve. To volunteer, fill out a registration form at www.capefearvolunteercenter.org.
Brigade Boys & Girls Club collects stockings and stocking stuffers for boys and girls ages 6-18. Donations can be dropped off through Dec. 14 at the Club located at 2759 Vance Street. 392-0747
New Hanover County Senior Resource Center and Comfort Keepers, an in-home care franchise, is conducting its “Stocking for Seniors” gift drive for older adults through Dec. 19. Call 798-6412 for more information.
