Giving back in Southeastern North Carolina
As you may know, I've been named the new editor of the Neighbors sections. That runs on Page 2B of the StarNews every day.
Here's something I lifted from my column announcing the change:
I'd like to invite you to submit articles for our Neighbors sections.
We'll consider stories that are no more than 400 words in length and are accompanied by a photograph.
I'm especially interested in helping nonprofit organizations tell their stories.
Here's one feature I'd like to run occasionally about nonprofits:
Answer five questions in a story no longer than 400 words. That includes the questions themselves.
Include an interesting digital photograph and be sure to give us information at the top of the story about who's in the photograph and what they are doing. Be careful to spell everything correctly.
The caption information doesn't count against your 400 words.
Here are the questions:
1. What's the name of your nonprofit and its mission?
2. How many paid staffers and unpaid volunteers do you have?
3. Tell me something unique about your organization.
4. What do you need from the community? Are there specific goods you'd like donated, such as blankets, office furniture, children's toys? What are your volunteer needs?
5. How can people contact you? Give a phone number the public can call and an e-mail address.
Also, we're looking for community news briefs.
Shorter news items, called “briefs” in our lingo, can be sent to these e-mail addresses: brunswick@starnewsonline.com, new.hanover@starnewsonline.com and pender@starnewsonline.com.
Questions? Contact me, Si Cantwell, at 343-2364 or si.cantwell@starnewsonline.com,
