A team of 8 people from all over the US traveled to Haiti on March 1st to purchase and deliver much needed food supplies to the Mountain Faith Orphanage in Saut 'd Eau (pronounced SO-do). These are some photos.
To God be the glory.

Photo taken at the small boarder town entering Haiti. A very dangerous place.

This is the main highway we traveled in Haiti. It was like driving in a dry riverbed. We were able to average about 10 MPH. Besides the heavy use of mopeds, the 4x4 pickup was common sight.

Helping unload the truck at the orphanage, with the help of excited kids. The pasta and tomato sauce we brought are a rare, special treat.

We also brought cooking oil, 100 pound sacks of flour, beans, rice and little bit of sugar.

Leland resident, Diane Merritt, shares toiletries donated by the ladies of Scotts Hill Baptist Church and hand carried into Haiti by the team.

For most Haitians we saw, there is no plumbing, everyone washes this way. They must also carry their water in buckets. There is no trash service or sewers.
One of our team dared to stick his lens inside a voodoo worship center, and got this image. The water fall at Saut 'd Eau are "sacred" to those who practice voodoo. In July each year, a huge gathering of 250,000 followers gather at the falls to worship the special trees and try to glimpse the focus of their worship in the mist of the falls.

Diane Merritt gives her Christian testimony, along with other team members, to a group of Haitian middle school students. All teaching is done on chalk boards and writing tablets. There are no books. Children begged us for Bibles and soccer balls. Students learn French, English and their native Creole languages.

Pastor Jay Merritt preaches on the three temptations of Jesus in the roofless, unfinished church building at Mountain Faith. Power for the PA is from a diesel generator that was "hidden" in the baptistery during the service.

Be blessed,
Pastor Jay Merritt
