L E L A N D – At a time when the need and prices for basic foodstuffs for families are rising steadily, Brunswick Family Assistance is spinning off Leland based Manna Ministries as an independent organization. Manna Ministries is a food program involving Leland area churches and community organizations, operating a monthly food pantry service for families in need in northern Brunswick County.

BFA, based in Shallotte, helped start Manna Ministries in the Spring of 2008 to better reach county residents 45 minutes away.  The pantry is among the first in the northern part of the county and has served hundreds of families since the peak of the economic downturn.

“Brunswick Family Assistance is excited to be able to be a part in mothering a new organization in northern Brunswick County.  We are also proud of how quickly the community has embraced Manna Ministries with their consistent support,” says Carol Phelps, BFA Executive Director.

A ribbon cutting ceremony at the new Manna Ministries facilities, hosted by the North Brunswick Chamber of Commerce, will take place on Saturday June 25^th at 9am.  The ceremony will be at the back door of Closer Walk Church, 117-C Village Rd., Leland, NC.  Immediately following the event, needy families from the area will be receiving donated food from the new facilities.  The pantry is open from 9am to 11am on the fourth Saturday each month.

Coordinated community food collection efforts and monetary donations provide Manna Ministries with the food needed.  100% of all donations go directly to aiding families in need.  Each month the pantry is prepared to serve 100 families, at estimated cost of $10 per family.  The goal is to serve 100 families in two hours.
