When is local NOT local?
If you are like me, I like to use my local merchants whenever possible. I live and work in the local community. I support the local schools. I pay the local taxes. I also worship and give at my local church. To me, local is North Brunswick County.
The contributions at our local Brunswick Country Manna food pantry in Leland are down. It got me wondering. I have recently noticed, at the local North Brunswick banks and merchants, boxes for food collection for the “local” food bank as well as coupons you can swipe that will donate $20 to your “local” food bank.
Sounds great! Here’s the TRUTH: these “local” donations do not stay in Northern Brunswick County.
If you look closely, your food donations are going directly to the Feeding America (formerly known as Second Harvest) or Food Bank of Central and Eastern NC which is located in Wilmington.
The Food Bank of Central and Eastern N.C. is an awesome organization which provides millions of pounds of food for hundreds of thousands of people. They are supported by many national and regional corporations that must follow the rules which are passed down from corporate headquarters.
Can your local Brunswick County food pantry get connected to this? Yes. Manna members are card carrying agents at the food bank in Wilmington. However, we have to go over to Wilmington and BUY the product from the Food Bank, to cover their overhead.
We need your help to ensure that the food and contributions you are donating will go 100% to feed the people of Northern Brunswick County.
Please support Manna Ministries as you continue to live, buy, worship and give local in Brunswick County.
